Fun, Fun, Fun! (or is it?)
I love online giving pages. I'm fascinated by them. Today I created a Canada Helps Gift of Belonging Giving Page in support of Reach For The Rainbow.
It was fun putting it together, choosing the "options" and making my own first donation (you can't ask if you don't give!). Then I created an email, happily announcing my cool, giving page in honour of "Thanksgiving" and sent it to my friends and family.
Patience Grasshopper....
It's now midnight and I just finished composing the email and hitting the "send" button.... and here I sit, watching my inbox, anticipating that first Canada Helps notification saying: "A donation has been made through your giving page".
Soo as I sit here and think: "uhm, it's midnight on Friday ya nut - most reasonable humanbeings are either in bed or out having fun! Go to bed and be happy that you've done something productive tonight" Yep - that's what I should do.
Fear of Failure
So as I sit here thinking about this, I wonder - how many people avoid giving pages, because they worry that people won't donate to their page and it will fail? As I ponder this, I think it's quite wise that Canada Helps gives people the "option" to set a target and/or make giving page donations public. The notion that people may log on to your giving page and see minimal (or god forbid zero) donations, is quite disconcerting.
Leap & the net will appear!
Fortunately, the scarier something is - the more determined I am to try it. So I'm good with letting my Reach for the Rainbow, Gift of Belonging Giving Page display the goal and progress.
That said - I'm also going to use this opportunity to ask that you support Reach for the Rainbow (and save me from public humiliation), and make a donation this ThanksGiving to my Gift of Belonging Giving Page!
And on that note...
I really am going to move on and enjoy this peaceful and reflective evening. (that's my story and I'm sticking to it!)
Happy Saturday!
